Ashford Town in tense finish
LIAM TEGG scored 51 as Ashford Town recorded a nailbiting winning draw against Sandwich in Shepherd Neame Kent League Division 1 on Saturday.
Luke Reeves (45) provided ample support as Ashford reached 220-9 from their 50 overs before Simon Taylor (3-34) and Mohsin Raza (3-65) helped restrict their opponents to 2159 from 50 overs, with all three results still possible inside the final over.
Niall O’Brien a superb century Folkestone thrash Beckenham in Division 1.
Michael James took three wickets and Essex’s Ryan ten Doeschate notched 2-52 as Beckenham were dismissed for 191. In reply, O’Brien cracked 13 fours and five sixes on his way to 107 off 87 balls, David Miles adding 42 as Folkestone reached their target inside 29 overs.
Hythe suffered an eight- compiled to help
hosts wicket humbling at Blackheath in Division 1. James Watson’s 56 was the only high point for the visitors as they were restricted to 162-9 from their 50 overs.
Blackheath then made light work of their reply, cruising to their target in just 30 overs.
Andrew Crawford’s century inspired Tenterden to a 55-run win at HSBC in Division 2.
Crawford hit 12 fours in his 103 but Nick Daynes’ 36 was the only other score above 11 as the visitors were dismissed for 211.
James Rand then took 4-32 to help dismiss the hosts for just 156, while Timir Chanda and Mark Baker also took three wickets apiece to ensure Tenterden were not forced to settle for a draw.
Ashford Town 3rds suffered a 228-run demolition against Chislehurst & West Kent.
No Ashford bowler averaged less than five an over as the hosts amassed 298-4 in 43 overs.
Dann Cadd then scored 30 of Ashford’s 70 all out in reply, with just one other player achieving double figures.
Folkestone 2nds were held to a winning draw by Bromley Common at Cheriton Road in Division 2, despite Laurence Ward’s unbeaten 57 and Nathan Smith’s 4-49.
In Division 2, Hythe 2nds beat Blackheath by three wickets in a thrilling finale in Division from the final ball of the 50th over. Ashford Town 2nds lost by 20 runs at Orpington, being dismissed for 185 in 40 overs, chasing 205.
Tenterden 2nds fell 28-runs short against Gravesend, despite Ryan Knight’s 4-57 and 36 with the bat.
Ashford 4ths were handed a walkover win by Gravesend RF 2nds in Division 5.
Mersham Sports continued their good start to the season with three victories.
The Saturday 1sts and 2nds both cruised to eight-wicket wins in the Kent Regional League over the Mote 3rds and Yalding 2nds respectively.
An opening stand of 170 between Ian Fagg (91) and Jack Wilson (69) helped Mersham Sunday 2nds overcome Headcorn by 70 runs but the Sunday 1sts fell to a five-wicket loss to Deal Victoria.
John Webster took 9-21 as Willesborough bowled High Halstow 3rds out for 60 runs and won by six wickets in Kent Regional League 1B Central.
