Garden day aims to help fund grow
THE Friends of Smarden Church are making final preparations for the village’s 15th open garden weekend.
The major annual fund raising event is over the weekend of June 19 and 20, 1pm to 6pm each day, with eight gardens open to visitors.
Programmes/tickets are £6 in advance from Luckhurst Butchers, the post office and The Flying Horse or £7 on the day and give full admission to all gardens.
Vintage cars (on the Saturday) and classic cars (on the Sunday) will be displayed at Gillets, in The Street, courtesy of Peter and Paddy Garrod.
The tower of St Michael the Archangel Church will open to offer views of the village and surrounding area.
Visitors can also enjoy tea and cake on the lawns of the medieval Dragon House and Smarden Charter Hall, with the latter also hosting a history exhibition.
All proceeds will go to the church’s fabric fund.
