Design guru ready to unveil ‘dynamic’ new vision of town
RESIDENTS will have the chance to examine future plans for Ashford next week.
Ashford’s Future will outline projects lined up at an exhibition being held at Ashford International Hotel next Wednesday, June 2, from 10am to 4pm.
Architect Sir Terry Farrell, the newly-appointed design ambassador for Ashford, will also attend to unveil his vision for how Ashford can become a nationally-recognised centre of design excellence and quality.
The exhibition will detail new building developments, transport connections and community spaces planned for the town.
A special E-Line bus service will run from the station and town centre to the Ashford International Hotel on the day to allow as many residents as possible to attend.
The event is being organised by Ashford’s Future, the agency overseeing the town’s £2.5bn investment programme.
Ashford’s Future managing director Judith Armitt said: “Sir Terry has exciting ideas for Ashford and I know he’s looking forward to sharing these with us at this event.
“We have ambitious goals for Ashford and with Sir Terry’s help we are embarking on an exciting journey for the town and its people.
“As part of the process of harnessing Sir Terry’s expertise he has consulted some of the UK’s leading experts on urban planning, economic development and ‘place shaping’.
“A huge amount of effort has gone into this work. This is an historic landmark for the town and will be critical in helping us to forge a new future for the area.”
Sir Terry said: “Ashford has the potential to turn into one of the UK’s most prosperous and dynamic towns.
“With the Eurostar rail link providing a gateway to Europe, and the introduction of the fast train service to London, Ashford encompasses many of the qualities I believe are vital for vibrant communities.”
