Double delight for Towers and Knatchbull
TOWERS School and Norton Knatchbull claimed two wins each at the Ashford and Weald Schools’ Football Association finals. The Year 11 teams from Swadelands and Norton Knatchbull started the day’s proceedings at Homelands, with goals by Rob Nash and Luke Hills earning Swadelands a 2-0 win. The Year 10 final was won and lost by half-time after three firsthalf Towers goals – the pick and candidate for goal of the day a drive from man of the match Bobby-Joe Taylor. Kieran Sabean also found the target before the break. Two goals by Ollie Rudd and a Sam Arnold strike gave Norton Knatchbull a 3-0 win over Angley School in the Year 9 final, while Knatchbull avenged their Year 11 defeat by Swadelands with a 2-1 win in the Year 8 match. Ashley Buckman opened the scoring for Knatchbull but Swadelands drew level five minutes into the second half through Luca Fasoli and, just as the game looked likely to go to a penalty shootout, Knatchbull scored the winner with a penalty by Ira Jackson. The Year 7 final was won by Towers, who took the lead against Knatchbull on five minutes through Tyler Wilkinson. They extended their advantage with 10 minutes to go while Donnell Campbell, in goal for Towers, made an outstanding save to keep a clean sheet. Between games there was a presentation to Mike Tucker who collected a long-service award. Mike has acted as the school association treasurer for more than 40 years.
