Tapsell takes the match honours
FOLKESTONE’S Mick Tapsell landed three dogfish and a dab on his way to victory in the Dover Saturday Series match, fished from the Prince of Wales pier.
He finished ahead of Deal’s Saul Page and Alan Underdown of Whitstable.
Other results include the latest Martin Walters Pier event, won by Rowan Lee of Folkestone. His 6lb catch included dogfish, dabs and pouting. The club’s Deal Cup was won by Ted Davis with 12lb – all dogfish.
The Ashford Sea Match Group fished their latest shore competition at the 10th Green beach at Sandown near Deal, Mike Wigston taking the plaudits with 2.76kg – including heaviest fish, a dogfish of 0.74kg.
Chris James was second with 1.48kg and Paul Baker third with 770g.
Several big smoothhounds to 11lb have been caught, as well as a specimen black bream for Shepway angler Greg Dixon who went to Sussex hot-spot Pagham last weekend and found the smoothhounds feeding.
Another specimen fish reported last week was a thornback ray of 15.4lb landed by Ashford’s Jeff Hymers fishing at the Sandown groynes at Deal. In coarse angling, there was a record five-hour match weight from the Cottington Match lakes at Deal.
Lyminge’s Peter Joiner netted an incredible 190lb of carp in the latest open match. In the South East Series Railway League the day before, the open winner was Clive Chapman with 74lb 8oz.
Coarse fishing news include the Folkestone and Shepway Angling Club evening event at Radnor Park.
I won with 28lb thanks to a bonus double-figure common carp ahead of Pete Joiner with 26lb and John Williams of Cheriton.
Winner of Sunday’s silver-fish only match was Darren Plummer with 23lb 8oz of roach and bream. Stuart Joy was second on 10lb 1oz and Kevin Foley third with 8lb 11oz. I was biggest bream pool winner with 3lb 7oz.
