Police TV appeal for help with catching sex attacker
email@example.com The hunt for a “fat” pervert who assaulted two women has widened, with an appeal on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme.
Almost exactly one year ago, we reported how the suspect – distinctive because of his chubby face and baseball hat – had attacked a 17-yearold girl.
The teenager was walking to school near the Millennium Community Wood in Singleton, Ashford, on June 29, 2012, when the man pounced on her.
Then, a 40-year-old woman was sexually molested while she was walking her dog near Brittannia Lane in Knights Park, on September 6, 2012.
Since then, DNA evidence has confirmed that the same offender carried out both attacks, although Kent Police are not currently linking him to any other incidents.
Now detectives have appealed for the help of Crimewatch viewers to catch the offender.
Det Sgt Matt Banks appeared on the programme last Thursday, urging anyone with information about the two sexual assaults to come forward.
He said: “As a result of the Crimewatch appeal, we are following up on a number of lines of inquiry, resulting from information provided by the public.
“There are similarities in the description of the suspects. It is reported the man is white and lightly tanned, of fat build, about 5ft 10in tall, and was wearing a baseball cap.
“We believe someone in the community might have information that can help with our investigation and I’d still encourage you to contact us if that is the case.”
Anyone with information about either attack is asked to call the police on 01303 289600 or call Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 111 555.
