Man suf­fers fa­tal col­lapse at sta­tion

A man has died af­ter col­laps­ing at Ash­ford In­ter­na­tional rail­way sta­tion.

The emer­gency ser­vices were called to the sta­tion af­ter the man, in his six­ties from Lydd, suf­fered a sus­pected heart at­tack and col­lapsed on the stairs lead­ing up to plat­forms 1 and 2 just af­ter 3pm on Wed­nes­day of last week.

An am­bu­lance and two po­lice cars ar­rived on the scene, but paramedics were un­able to re­vive the man.

South East Coast Am­bu­lance spokesman Rich Airey said: “Sadly, de­spite ev­ery­one’s best ef­forts the man was pro­nounced dead on the scene.”

A Bri­tish Trans­port Po­lice (BTP) spokes­woman said: “The in­ci­dent was re­ported to BTP at 3.36pm, and is cur­rently be­ing treated as non-sus­pi­cious. A file will be pre­pared for the coroner.”
