Flowers from around the world filled Woodchurch church for a festival at the weekend.

The theme was The World in Flowers and each display represented a country with that nation’s national flower featured.

Organiser Ann Prebble said: “We had 29 countries so it took quite a lot of research and sourcing. We managed to find every flower we needed.”

The festival raised funds for the church and for the Leo Trust, which runs a home for adults with learning difficulties in Woodchurch.

As Mrs Prebble’s daughter, Hayley, lives there, she offered to help fundraise for a cycle track the home is planning to install.

“It was a fantastic weekend,” she said. “Everyone was very complementary about the arrangements and said how good the theme was.”

Half the flower arrangers came from Woodchurch and the other half from Hamstreet. Local youth groups and Woodchurch Primary School were also involved.

The £1,300 proceeds from the flower festival will be split 50/50 between the church and the Leo Trust.

The festival was opened by the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Ashford, Cllr John and Mrs Jill Link.
