Run in the sun helps fight against cancer
Pupils and staff from Highworth Grammar School in Ashford defied the heat to take part in the Maidstone Race for Life on Sunday.
They were among several thousand who braved soaring temperatures to join in the 5k run at Mote Park in aid of Cancer Research UK.
The Highworth team were inspired to run by Linda Wells, 46, a PE teacher at the Quantock Drive school who is currently battling breast cancer, and to raise money for the fight against cancer.
She recently underwent surgery and started further treatment this week.
A Highworth spokeswoman said: “She is really proud of us and hopes it make more people aware of how cancer not only affects the person, but also has a knock-on effect with everyone around them.”
So far the Highworth Race for Life team has raised about £800 but the money is still coming in from staff, students and community groups.
