Run in the sun helps fight against can­cer

Pupils and staff from High­worth Gram­mar School in Ash­ford de­fied the heat to take part in the Maid­stone Race for Life on Sun­day.

They were among sev­eral thou­sand who braved soar­ing tem­per­a­tures to join in the 5k run at Mote Park in aid of Can­cer Re­search UK.

The High­worth team were in­spired to run by Linda Wells, 46, a PE teacher at the Quan­tock Drive school who is cur­rently bat­tling breast can­cer, and to raise money for the fight against can­cer.

She re­cently un­der­went surgery and started fur­ther treat­ment this week.

A High­worth spokes­woman said: “She is re­ally proud of us and hopes it make more peo­ple aware of how can­cer not only af­fects the per­son, but also has a knock-on ef­fect with ev­ery­one around them.”

So far the High­worth Race for Life team has raised about £800 but the money is still com­ing in from staff, stu­dents and com­mu­nity groups.
