Free school to open
Temporary permission has been granted for Wye Free School to open in the village’s Kempe Centre.
An application from the Education Funding Agency, on behalf of the free school, had attracted almost 30 letters of objection from residents.
While some objectors indicated they were pleased to see the former Wye College library and computer services centre put to use, there were concerns about the traffic it would generate.
Permission for the centre at Olantigh Road and 155 car parking spaces to be used for up to three years was granted by Ashford Borough Council.
A condition placed by the council was that the school, which will be for 11 to 19-year-olds, can take no more than 270 pupils and is limited to 90 per year group.
