Free school to open

Tem­po­rary per­mis­sion has been granted for Wye Free School to open in the vil­lage’s Kempe Cen­tre.

An ap­pli­ca­tion from the Ed­u­ca­tion Fund­ing Agency, on be­half of the free school, had at­tracted al­most 30 let­ters of ob­jec­tion from res­i­dents.

While some ob­jec­tors in­di­cated they were pleased to see the for­mer Wye Col­lege li­brary and com­puter ser­vices cen­tre put to use, there were con­cerns about the traf­fic it would gen­er­ate.

Per­mis­sion for the cen­tre at Olantigh Road and 155 car park­ing spa­ces to be used for up to three years was granted by Ash­ford Bor­ough Coun­cil.

A con­di­tion placed by the coun­cil was that the school, which will be for 11 to 19-year-olds, can take no more than 270 pupils and is limited to 90 per year group.
