A new footbridge for Charing’s railway station has been given the go ahead by Ashford Borough Council (ABC). Network Rail applied for planning permission to replace the existing Exmouth design bridge, with a more modern construction. ABC has now given approval to the project, but has recommended that lifts would be a welcome addition to the plans. The design of the bridge would allow for the installation of lifts at a later date, and will be built taller than the previous construction, to allow electrified wires to run underneath if necessary. Construction is expected to take place over a weekend in late September.
