League stay at one di­vi­sion

Six new teams will com­pete in the Ash­ford Satur­day League this sea­son.

Lydd Town 3rds, Willes­bor­ough Ath­letic, Metro, Ald­ing­ton, Golden Ar­row Re­serves and River­side Inn were voted in at the an­nual meet­ing at Sandy­acres with the league re­tain­ing one di­vi­sion.

Sec­re­tary Ge­off Wick­ens said: “The sub­ject of re­vert­ing to two again was de­bated and put to the clubs but there was no strong feel­ing for it.”

Trea­surer John Ralph was made a league vice-pres­i­dent in recog­ni­tion of his long ser­vice, hav­ing taken on the role in 1999.

Mr Wick­ens pre­sented a cheque of £575 to Sa­man­tha Lean­ing, of ASD Ash­ford, part of the pro­ceeds from the league’s 2012-13 Char­ity com­pe­ti­tions.

Oth­ers to ben­e­fit are Pil­grims Hos­pices (nom­i­nated by the win­ners of both the Satur­day and Sun­day sec­tions of the com­pe­ti­tion, Golden Ar­row and Mar­ket Ho­tel, Demelza House Chil­dren’s Hospice, Kent Air Am­bu­lance Trust and the Kent FA’s Benev­o­lent Fund.

The new sea­son starts on Septem­ber 7.

Lydd Town boss Dave Smith has made four sign­ings ahead of the new Kent In­victa League sea­son.

Tom Ri­p­ley, Matt Collins, Chris Cle­ments and James Whyte have joined the Lyn­d­sey Field out­fit. Two new clubs have been voted into the league – Fleet Leisure who ground­share at Rochester United in Strood and new­com­ers Glebe who are mov­ing in with Holmes­dale in Oak­ley Road, Brom­ley. Lydd have been paired with Hol­lands & Blair in the first round if the Chal­lenge Tro­phy.

The new league sea­son starts on Satur­day Au­gust 10. The club open their pre-sea­son friendly cam­paign at home to Hythe Town on Satur­day July 20 (3pm).

The oth­ers are July 25: Brom­ley Green (h) (6.30pm), July 27: (Beck­en­ham (a) (2pm), Au­gust 3: Cray Wan­der­ers (h) 3pm.
