League stay at one division
Six new teams will compete in the Ashford Saturday League this season.
Lydd Town 3rds, Willesborough Athletic, Metro, Aldington, Golden Arrow Reserves and Riverside Inn were voted in at the annual meeting at Sandyacres with the league retaining one division.
Secretary Geoff Wickens said: “The subject of reverting to two again was debated and put to the clubs but there was no strong feeling for it.”
Treasurer John Ralph was made a league vice-president in recognition of his long service, having taken on the role in 1999.
Mr Wickens presented a cheque of £575 to Samantha Leaning, of ASD Ashford, part of the proceeds from the league’s 2012-13 Charity competitions.
Others to benefit are Pilgrims Hospices (nominated by the winners of both the Saturday and Sunday sections of the competition, Golden Arrow and Market Hotel, Demelza House Children’s Hospice, Kent Air Ambulance Trust and the Kent FA’s Benevolent Fund.
The new season starts on September 7.
Lydd Town boss Dave Smith has made four signings ahead of the new Kent Invicta League season.
Tom Ripley, Matt Collins, Chris Clements and James Whyte have joined the Lyndsey Field outfit. Two new clubs have been voted into the league – Fleet Leisure who groundshare at Rochester United in Strood and newcomers Glebe who are moving in with Holmesdale in Oakley Road, Bromley. Lydd have been paired with Hollands & Blair in the first round if the Challenge Trophy.
The new league season starts on Saturday August 10. The club open their pre-season friendly campaign at home to Hythe Town on Saturday July 20 (3pm).
The others are July 25: Bromley Green (h) (6.30pm), July 27: (Beckenham (a) (2pm), August 3: Cray Wanderers (h) 3pm.
