£3 Racist nurse banned

The former manager of an Ashford care home has been banned from nursing for a year over a string of racist comments. A hearing was told that Helene Coetzee voiced her disgust at elderly residents being helped to use the toilet by black carers.
She also stunned colleagues by saying: “I pride myself on not having many foreigners here.” And in another example of her ‘deep seated’ racial prejudice she said: “I don’t want any more black nurses, there are already enough in the home.”
Mrs Coetzee made the comments when she was manager of Bupa’s £7 million flagship dementia care home Warren Lodge, which opened near Ashford’s Drovers roundabout in May 2011.
