sawilliams@thekmgroup.co.uk Scores of streets across the borough missed out on their first recycling collection pick-up this week after the binmen’s rounds took longer than expected.

Ashford Borough Council released a list of more than 100 roads that were missed during Monday and Tuesday’s collection.

Two extra “mop up” crews were sent out on Tuesday, as well as the scheduled lorries, to collect the recycling from households that missed out.

Similarly, several households missed out on their first refuse collection last week.

Alexandra Parsons, from Westwell Leacon, said: “My rubbish in my new fancy bins was supposed to be collected on Thursday (July 11) under the new scheme.

“I duly put out my food waste and black waste bin and returned in the evening to find it rotting nicely in the sun along with our whole street.

“I left it there Friday (July 12) for another day of rotting and then called the council Friday evening...a backlog I was told, it would definitely be taken by the end of Saturday.”
