Youngsters do town proud
Team Ashford can now brag a trophy treble after retaining the county champions title at the 2013 Kent Panathlon Challenge, writes SAMANTHA WILLIAMS.
The Panathlon is an event for young disabled children and was held at the Medway Park.
And even though Ashford’s team, which is made up of pupils from the Wyvern School and The John Wallis Academy, claimed the winning title for the third year in a row, it was a close call for the athletes who were trailing by two points when they entered into the relay races – the final event of the day.
Luckily, they managed to secure a victory and added the 2013 winning title to their 2012 and 2011 wins.
Water polo player Sean King, who represented TeamGB at the Olympics in London, was on hand to present the winners with their medals
He said:“I was hooked last summer, like most of the country with the Paralympic Games and it’s great to see so many kids here taking part in sport. As I gave one of the kids their medal, he cried out, ‘we’ve done it.’
“It’s great to see people enjoying sport.”
