Council apologises as

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Rubbish Collection Update - By Samantha Williams

sawilliams@thekm The leader of Ashford Borough Council ( ABC) has publicly apologised for the trouble and inconvenience the new refuse and recycling service has caused residents.

Cllr Gerry Clarkson’s apology came during last Thursday’s full council meeting following countless complaints to ABC from frustrated homeowners.

There has been a wave of protests from residents across the borough who were furious that their bins had not been emptied – or, in some cases, even delivered to them – since the new waste collection and recycling system was launched across the borough on Monday, July 8. Cllr Clarkson, leader of the Conservative-controlled council, said that the overwhelming amount of waste that residents had left out for the binmen – more than double what was expected – was the main reason why more than 100 streets in Ashford were hit by a delayed pick-up last week.

In a speech to his fellow councillors, Cllr Clarkson said: “Our desire to improve our recycling rates took a major step forward last week as we embarked on rolling out our new recycling service in the borough.

“Inevitably, when you make such fundamental changes there
