Per­fect con­di­tions for gar­den fundraiser

A cou­ple from Char­ing Heath raised more than £1,000 for two sep­a­rate char­i­ties when they opened up their renowned gar­den to the pub­lic.

Alan and Pamela Scrivens have been open­ing up their gar­den to vis­i­tors and for pri­vate tours for the past four years as part of the National Gar­dens Scheme (NGS).

The cou­ple’s daugh­ter-in-law, Karen Scrivens, said: “The day was a great suc­cess. We had lovely weather for it.”

In to­tal, £800 was raised from ad­mis­sions, which will be do­nated to the NGS, and a fur­ther £400 was raised from the sale of tea and cakes, which is to be given to the Royal National Lifeboat In­sti­tu­tion (RNLI).

Vis­i­tors are in­vited to at­tend the next open day of the gar­den, which is lo­cated at Tram Hatch, in Barn­field Road, Char­ing Heath TN27 0BN, on Sun­day, Au­gust 11 be­tween 12.30pm and 5.30pm.
