Athletic pupils from the North School in Ashford were presented with special sports awards from a Paralympic gold medallist at their annual award evening.
Seventy pupils were presented with awards for outstanding performances throughout the last year, including 11 winners of the Overall Sports Award, by middle distance runner Tim Prendergast, who won gold in the 2004 Paralympics for the 800m. The winners included 15-year-old Ellerey Ireland , who has beaten the school’s record for the 200 metres for the past four years running.
Stefan Eede , director of sport at the Essella Road school, said: “The awards evening gives us an opportunity to celebrate the success of our students’ from some of the 57 school teams participating in 15 different sports we ran last year.”
