They’re out­stand­ing

Ath­letic pupils from the North School in Ash­ford were pre­sented with spe­cial sports awards from a Par­a­lympic gold medal­list at their an­nual award evening.

Seventy pupils were pre­sented with awards for out­stand­ing per­for­mances through­out the last year, in­clud­ing 11 win­ners of the Over­all Sports Award, by mid­dle dis­tance run­ner Tim Pren­der­gast, who won gold in the 2004 Par­a­lympics for the 800m. The win­ners in­cluded 15-year-old Ellerey Ire­land , who has beaten the school’s record for the 200 me­tres for the past four years run­ning.

Ste­fan Eede , di­rec­tor of sport at the Es­sella Road school, said: “The awards evening gives us an op­por­tu­nity to cel­e­brate the suc­cess of our stu­dents’ from some of the 57 school teams par­tic­i­pat­ing in 15 dif­fer­ent sports we ran last year.”
