Calling all nature-loving night owls
Discover the secret world on your doorstep by sleeping out in the great outdoors, while fundraising for nature. Put up a tent in your garden, build a makeshift shelter or, if you’re brave enough, simply sleep out under the stars. That’s the invitation from the RSPB, which is organising the Big Wild Sleepout next month. It’s being held over the weekend of August 9 to 11, and offers participants the chance to sleep out, hear night sounds, breathe in the night air and marvel at the night sky. The event will also be raising money for conservation projects across the UK through sponsorship from family and friends. Register a page with JustGiving and fundraise for the country’s threatened wildlife. It’s a simple way to get closer to nature by experiencing the elusive night-time animals that live near you. From building your own dens and midnight feasts to torchlight safaris and bug hunting, the RSPB says it has lots of ideas and activities to help people enjoy their sleep-out.
