World title seals slam for Digweed
George Digweed is celebrating his 21st world title after completing an unprecedented grand slam of World and European Sporting and Compak titles in Spain last week. The Wittersham based 49-year-old shooter is the oldest ever world champion after leading from the opening day, seeing off the challenge of French shooters Bastien Havart and Charles Bardou, and American Brad Kidd. Digweed took a big step towards the title by starting with a 25/25 but a 22/25 on his final and hardest layout left the door open for the others. The French pair shot 192/200 and 191/200 respectively, leaving Kidd to score 50/50 to win or 49/50 to force a shoot off. He finished with 48, confirming Digweed as champion. Digweed was happy how he performed in 40C heat and is already looking forward to defend his title in Portugal next year. More than 960 competitors representing 33 nations took part.
