Emma Suckling has been named Folkestone Karate Club’s student of the year.

The youngster, who started the sport at the age of five, has been rewarded for her commitment and dedication to the club and the sport. She was awarded her black belt in 2011.

Folkestone students attended International Karate Kyokushin’s annual summer camp last weekend.

The event, involving more than 100 students, brought together all the clubs who are part of the IKK organisation, in classes teaching several aspects of Kyokushin Karate together with self defence. All the 100-plus students took part in a Kata competition with six Folkestone competitors, Ryan Bingham, Jozef Cork, Jaden Lucken, Bethany Lucken, Natasha Phillips and Bradley Gonsalves all winning first places.
