MBE for working with minehunters

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - New Year Honours -

A Royal Navy engineer who played a pivotal role in keeping minehunters available for frontline service has become an MBE.

Warrant Officer Paul Hutchinson, pictured, has been awarded for his work, mainly in the Gulf, over the last three years.

The 54-year-old from Wittersham worked on three Hunt-class minehunters – HMS Hurworth, HMS Quorn and HMS Atherstone – using his engineering skills to keep them in top condition.

WO Hutchinson said the award came as a huge but pleasant surprise.

“I consider that I am receiving the honour on behalf of all the minehunters and crew I have served with in the Gulf over the last three years,” he said.

He has lived in Wittersham for four years.
