Tap water ‘petrol flavour’ prompts fears of ill health
email@example.com An Ashford man claims he is suffering health problems due to a stench of petrol emanating from the taps in his house.
Patrick Kendal says the water running from his taps smells and tastes contaminated – a problem he says he has endured for the past 12 months.
He also claims that the problem is affecting other residents in Cornes Close, Willesborough.
Mr Kendal, 22, said: “I don’t even use water from the taps anymore.
“I can’t wash my clothes in the washing machine because they go all bobbly and have started to fade.
“When I run a bath it absolutely stinks. I can’t carry on like this. I just want fresh water. I am feeling very depressed. ”
Mr Kendal believes the contaminated water is damaging his health, and has visited the doctor after suffering with an irregular heartbeat.
He has contacted his water provider to sort the issue out, and now says he is fed up with waiting for them to get back to him.
“They keep saying they’re going to do something about it, but nothing is happening. It is getting ridiculous. I have to go to my mum’s house in Newtown just to wash my clothes and have a shower,” he added.
Since the smell was identified, South East Water and the Salva- tion Army Housing Association have both provided Mr Kendal, and other Cornes Close residents, with bottled water.
He adds: “If there is no risk to our health, then why do they keep giving us the bottles of water?”
Unemployed Mr Kendal also believes he deserves compensation to replace the clothing he claims the water has ruined.
“I bought a jacket to see me through the winter, but it has now faded and I don’t have a lot of money.”
