Two fires in bath­room of bed­sit treated as ar­son

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a case of ar­son af­ter two fires started in a bath­room at the same prop­erty in Ash­ford on Mon­day night.

Fire crews were called to the bed­sit in Beaver Road at 8.35pm, and again at 9.56pm, to a re­port that a small fire had bro­ken out in a ground floor bath­room.

Two fire en­gines were sent on both oc­ca­sions and the fires ex­tin­guished. It was re­ported that a shower cur­tain was dam­aged in the sec­ond fire. The fires are both be­ing treated as sus­pi­cious, and of- fi­cers are now in­ves­ti­gat­ing.

A spokesman for Kent Po­lice said: “We at­tended Beaver Road at 10pm Mon­day night af­ter a fire crew had been to a fire in the com­mu­nal bath­room of the prop­erty that is di­vided up into eight bed­sits.

“As po­lice of­fi­cers went to check the bath­room, smoke was com­ing from it, from a sec­ond fire. This one dam­aged a shower cur­tain.

“The fires are be­ing treated as ar­son and crime scenes investigators were at the scene Tues­day morn­ing.”
