What has he done to deserve honours?
Just about everybody I know is sick at the way the honours are thrown around like confetti. What have the likes of author Jackie Collins, OBE, done to deserve honours? These people earn vast amounts of money for something they enjoy doing. Do they really qualify to be honoured? And, locally, which joker nominated Paul Carter, the leader of Kent County Council, for a new year honour? He hasn’t exactly endeared himself to the people of Kent; is paid an obscene salary, along with his other cronies, for doing a high-paid job poorly. We hear he likes to drive fast cars in his spare time and is a figurehead for some local assembly no one’s heard of. Does all of this qualify him for a CBE? I don’t think so. Sounds more like the old pals’ act. People who work all week for little money in charity shops are more deserving. James Kelly, Ashford
