Choir seeks fresh talent
A well-known Kent choir is recruiting new members.
The 85-year-old Snowdown Colliery Male Voice Choir was started in the colliery towns of Kent but now draws members from across south and east Kent.
Three members and the accompanist come from Ashford, sharing transport to the weekly practices in Aylesham. George Hanlon, who sings bass, lives in Hamstreet and has been with the choir for nine years. He said: “I’ve made a lot of friends in the choir, and singing has made a big difference in my life. We sing about 13 concerts each year to help raise funds for local communities. We’ll be singing at the Royal Albert Hall next year, which we’ve done before. It’s a wonderful experience.”
Mr Hanlon is happy to take new members to practice evenings. Call him on 01233 732684.
