Children’s writer visits
A children’s author was on hand to re-open a Stanhope school’s library.
Luke Temple was invited to visit the primary section of The John Wallis Academy to declare the library officially open.
During the visit he spoke to children aged 4 to 11 in a special assembly, before meeting with new librarians and two children from each class who have made exceptional progress in reading.
Nicola Hirst, assistant principal of the academy, said: “Luke was asked to revisit the school following an earlier visit in September 2013. He inspired a brilliant enthusiasm in the pupils on that occasion, and this time was invited to open our library and to speak to the whole of the Primary Academy.
“Children enthusiastically welcomed him back.
“The school kitchen made a special cake replicating one of his books and Luke and staff were thrilled with the children’s positivity towards reading.”
