Warehouse tennis proves real success
Nearly 50 youngsters took the chance to pick up a tennis racket for the first time during a two-day coaching camp held in an Ashford warehouse.
Four courts were marked out on the floor of the former Kent Paper Company premises in Canterbury Road, South Willesborough, in an initiative organised by Bethersden Tennis Club head coach Tom Carlton, and Graham Sutherland, chairman of the Ashford and District League.
Mr Sutherland said that 45 youngsters aged six to 11 attended over the two days and that he was thrilled with the response.
He added: “The whole idea was to get rackets into the hands of children who had not played before and we had nothing but positive feedback.”
The pair are now extending the scheme by running weekly coaching sessions which got under way on Sunday and will continue until the end of March.
The sessions will run Thursdays, (4-5pm and 5-6pm), and Sundays, (1011am and 11am-noon).
The cost, for 10 weeks, is £60 and all equipment is provided.
