Quartet so close to glory
Ashford missed out on winning the National Area Fours Final losing to Kent rivals Swale. The team of Anne Rutland, Ian Payne, Mo Hayes and Charlie Draper bowled impressively to reach this stage but lost to a better team on the day. The ladies beat Prince Arthur 77-74 in the Valendor competition. Two rinks were played home and away with Sue Street, Gill Hawkes, Margaret Kett and Gill Howard recording the highest winning score - 27-11. Ashford men lost 115-108 against Betteshanger in the Kent League, picking up 1.5 points. Keith Rich, Brad Pounds, John Rouse and Peter Arnold were the highest winning rink. In friendlies, Ashford beat Woolwich Afternoon’s touring side 108-101, The highest winning rink was Vi Simpkins, Paul Brabon, Albert Bailey and Anne Laidler - 29-10. Ashford lost 142-89 against Wealden. Jill Kirk, Anne Laidler, John Ellerington and John Kirk were the highest winning rink - 29-14. Ashford also lost 133-93 to Essex side Havering, Ian Payne, John Rouse, Ann Laidler and Thomas Fairman produced the best winning score 22-11.
