Daring youngsters from Ashford have raised more than £2,000 from an array of crazy stunts in order to support the Sk8side CIC youth centre.

As well as holding The Big Fat Quiz of the Year on Saturday night, members from the youth club ran a fundraising pop-up shop in the County Square shopping centre every day last week.

The teenagers volunteered to lose some hair to try to raise as much cash as possible for the Tannery Lane centre.

Members Christian Meller and Mike Hall agreed to have their heads shaved, while Lewis Arthurs had his legs waxed.

The stunts also saw Dan Clinton survive an hour in the stocks in Ashford’s town centre, while shoppers threw cold wet sponges at him.

Director Simon Woods, who estimates that the week raised around £2,500, said: “The week was a great success. We wanted to raise money for Sk8side and promote the work that we do. We managed to recruit a lot of new members.”

Sk8side CIC Youth Centre aims to help and support young people with employment, advice on drugs, sexual health, relationship as well as offering fun trips and activities.
