Mrs Horton and Tianna were the only two in the house when the fire broke out in the living room at around 5.15pm.
Six fire engines, around 40 firefighters, a height vehicle and bulk water carrier were sent to tackle the fire.
Mrs Horton, who works at the Ray Allen Centre in Stanhope, said: “I can’t thank everyone who helped out enough. It has made what happened bearable. There is so much we still have to do but we are trying to get a bit of normality back. Tianna is back at school and Thomas is back at work.”
Kent Police say the fire investigation is still ongoing.
