Gas­works tower set to go

Plans to de­mol­ish a mas­sive gas holder on the for­mer gas­works site in Ash­ford have been sub­mit­ted to the coun­cil.

South­ern Gas Net­works has no­ti­fied Ash­ford Bor­ough Coun­cil of its in­ten­tion to de­mol­ish the out of use gas holder in Gas­works Lane, Ash­ford.

The Wig­gins type holder, just off Vic­to­ria Way, was con­structed in 1966.

It is 118ft in di­am­e­ter and 130ft high, with a ca­pac­ity of one mil­lion cu­bic feet of gas.

De­mo­li­tion work is ex­pected to be­gin by the sum­mer, to be com­pleted by Novem­ber this year.
