Dilapidated block stripped
Workmen have begun stripping out the interior of a block of derelict flats in Ashford town centre this week ready for their demolition.
Contractors for Affinity Sutton have begun clearing out Ashdown Court in North Street, with new affordable housing set to be built on the site once it is cleared.
Affinity’s regional development director Joyce Ferguson said: “We are really pleased to be starting work on site at Ashdown Court and are delighted to be delivering much needed new affordable housing for the area.”
The dilapidated building, which has been compared to a prison block and was plagued by crime and anti-social behaviour, will be knocked down and replaced with 27 new affordable homes, comprising two three-bedroom houses, 20 two-bedroom apartments and five one-bedroom apartments, with associated parking and bicycle storage.
Work is expected to be completed by spring 2015.
