Comms chief latest casualty

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Kent Business Update -

Kent County Council’s communications chief has become the latest casualty of a cut in the number of senior managers working for the authority.

Matt Burrows has left his £96,000 a year post as part of the latest cost-cutting reorganisation at County Hall.

It is understood that he is not working out his three months notice and is on paid leave until April, when the director’s role will officially be scrapped. He took up the director’s post two years ago – joining KCC from the London borough of Croydon where he was in charge of media and communications. Previously, he was head of media relations at Surrey County Council.

A reduction in senior managers is among the plans to save KCC more than £80m in 2014-15, as is a proposal to increase council tax for the first time for three years.

A 1.9% increase in bills will, if agreed, add a further £20 to average bills. The budget is due to be agreed next month.
