Men back with a bang
Four players scored twice as Ashford’s Mens 1sts returned to Kent/Sussex Regional 1 action in style with a 9-0 defeat of hosts Worthing.
Sam Handley’s double took his tally for the season to 14, with skipper Paul Cheap, Rob Playford and Ronan Taggart all scoring two each.
Ashford warmed up with a midweek friendly against Canterbury following the midseason break and the run-out paid dividends.
The victory completed the double over the West Sussex club, following Ashford’s 4-0 win at Ball Lane earlier in the season.
Danny Laslett’s side dominated the attacking line with 42 circle penetrations.
They also claimed their fifth clean sheet of the season and boast the best defensive record in the division, conceding only 16 goals in 12 games.
Two-goal Andy Hill paved the way for the 2nds’ 4-0 home win over Maidstone to keep them second in Kent Area Division 1.
Stuart Wise and Adam Fox added one each.
Lawrence Richards, Isand Schwartz and skipper Matt Carter scored as Ashford beat Canterbury 3rds 3-2 in Kent Division 2 at Polo Farm.
Goalkeeper Ellis Sharp also produced a fine display as his side clinched their seventh win.
Lawrence Richards fired them ahead, taking one touch before firing the ball home, after seizing on a home half clearance from a penalty corner.
Canterbury equalised shortly after before Dave Bulgin went close to getting a second before half-time.
Sharp had to be at his best straight after the break, pulling off several fine saves before Canterbury went in front again.
Schwartz then deflected Josh Houston’s crash ball to make it 2-2 before skipper Matt Carter saw his effort tipped past the post.
He was involved again in the build-up for Ashford’s winner, striking the ball into the circle towards team- mate Tom Lightfoot.
The ball went through everyone, before taking a deflection off the skipper into the net.
The 4ths gained a 5-0 walkover over opponents Sutton Valence who were unable to field a side.
Ray Semadeni scored twice and Tim Foreman got the other as Ashford 5ths beat Deal 3-0 in Kent Outdoor Premier B.
Alfie Miller hit four as Ashford 6ths beat Marden Russets 8-2 in Kent Division 2.
Brother Robin added another, while two more siblings, Ben and Jack Manning Press made scoring a real family affair. Jon Browning added the eighth.
Dave Miller helped skipper Harry Pickering’s birthday celebrations continue for another week as Antiques side gained another three points with a 2-1 win at Burnt Ash.
Mark Rooney continued his good scoring form before Miller converted the winner seconds before the final whistle.
Ashford Ladies slipped to their second successive 3-0 defeat against Essex opposition in East Women’s League, Division 2 South with defeat at Thurrock.
They played well but came up against a home goalkeeper in good form.
Emily Jakeman hit the winner as the 2nds beat Folkestone 1-0 in Kent Division 1
Jakeman’s first effort was blocked but followed-up to get the winner as Ashford earned a second successive clean sheet.
The 3rds game against the University of Kent was postponed.
