Pupils to compete at Olympic venue
Fifteen pupils plus teacher Scott Wiseman from Ashford Prep have qualified for the two-day British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships in April. Youngsters from across the country have been taking part in a series of competitions, with the top 140 from each class qualifying to compete at the London Aquatics Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park which hosted the swimming and diving events at the 2012 Games. The qualifiers are: Amelia Wright, Saori Henwood, Elizabeth Thorne, Elliot McKenzie, Freddie Jefferson-Pillai, Zak Birley, Amelia Lall, Lucy Cullen, Saskia Willetts, Isobel Young, Tom Barton, George Coles, Gabriel Brabham-Martin, Olivia Jefferson-Pillai, Louis Harrison. The event is the first to be held at the centre since the Olympics and the head of PE at Ashford Prep, Stephanie Orr, said: “It is going to be a brilliant experience for the whole team, with the competition taking place at such a prestigious venue. We are excited and looking forward to the event.” The girls compete on April 5, with the boys in action the following day.
