Pupils to com­pete at Olympic venue

Fif­teen pupils plus teacher Scott Wise­man from Ash­ford Prep have qual­i­fied for the two-day Bri­tish Schools Mod­ern Biathlon Cham­pi­onships in April. Young­sters from across the coun­try have been tak­ing part in a se­ries of com­pe­ti­tions, with the top 140 from each class qual­i­fy­ing to com­pete at the Lon­don Aquat­ics Cen­tre at the Queen El­iz­a­beth Olympic Park which hosted the swim­ming and div­ing events at the 2012 Games. The qual­i­fiers are: Amelia Wright, Saori Hen­wood, El­iz­a­beth Thorne, El­liot McKen­zie, Fred­die Jef­fer­son-Pil­lai, Zak Bir­ley, Amelia Lall, Lucy Cullen, Saskia Wil­letts, Iso­bel Young, Tom Bar­ton, Ge­orge Coles, Gabriel Brab­ham-Martin, Olivia Jef­fer­son-Pil­lai, Louis Har­ri­son. The event is the first to be held at the cen­tre since the Olympics and the head of PE at Ash­ford Prep, Stephanie Orr, said: “It is go­ing to be a bril­liant ex­pe­ri­ence for the whole team, with the com­pe­ti­tion tak­ing place at such a pres­ti­gious venue. We are ex­cited and look­ing for­ward to the event.” The girls com­pete on April 5, with the boys in ac­tion the fol­low­ing day.
