Newcombe sets up win
Top scorer Lewis Newcombe hit his 15th goal of the season as Givaudan clinched their fourth successive win, beating Mersham Reserves 2-1 to close the gap on Division 3 leaders Charing Reserves to five points. A minute’s silence was observed before the game for former Mersham player Tony Felson who died last week. The match was one of only two games – both played at The Ridge – to have survived in another weekend of postponements. Newcombe poked home the opener, converting Sean Wallis’ set-up and both players went close to extending the lead before half-time. Ewan Stanley levelled early in the second half, before man-of-the match Alex Shell grabbed the winner. Nick Hickmott’s double, and one each by Neil Townley, Tom Brumbridge and Adam Rasmussen eased Stour Valley to a third successive win, 5-1 against Park Farm Rangers. They move out of the bottom-two for the first time this season. Valley had a poor start to the season with five straight defeats but new recruits have seen an upturn. The defeat extended Farm’s run to six games without a win, with Kevin Oakley’s seventh goal of the campaign their only consolation. Levin Athletic’s Division 1 game at home to Red Heathens survived the weather, only for the visitors to fail to raise a side.
