Firefighters were kept busy on Sunday night, after a car ended up in a ditch and a fire broke out in another parked on a driveway.

A car was reported in a ditch in Bromley Green Road, Ruckinge, at around 10pm. One appliance from Ashford’s Red Watch attended the scene.

The male driver, who sustained back injuries, and a passenger had already got out of the vehicle when firefighters arrived.

The police and ambulance services were already in attendance, including a Hazard Area Response Team made up of paramedics.

The driver was taken to the William Harvey Hospital to receive treatment.

In a separate incident two appliances, one from Charing and another from Aldington, were called to reports of a Renault Megane alight on a driveway in Cornwallis Close, Willesborough at around 10.30pm.

Crews using hose reel jets worked for around 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze, believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
