Police officers controlled rush hour traffic in both directions until a recovery vehicle arrived at 9.10am.
No-one was injured and paramedics were not called.
Kent Police spokesman Lisa Humphries said: “We were informed at 6.59am that a lorry had tried to pass a vehicle and got stuck in the mud half on the road and half in a ditch. This was on a bend on a narrow road just as you enter Challock.
“The lorry was travelling from Ashford to Challock. He ended up on the wrong side of the road, facing oncoming traffic.”
Kent Highway Services spokesman John Todd said a verge that was damaged by the lorry was repaired by Tuesday afternoon.
