Kentish Express Ashford & District - - All The Week’s Action... -

The article on Ray Knowler (Ray’s lifetime in game, Kentish Express, January 23) brings back memories. I joined Ashford South End football club at the age of 15 in 1953 while still at school and Ray was doing his National Sservice. My brother Ken played and Jimmy Douglas and Johny Brind were on the committee. Because I knew my 12 times table and they were all bigger than me, I was made treasurer. When we packed up (I think in 1955) I moved on to Invicta Press. I then got a bill for the rental of Victoria Park to Ashford South End. As we had no funds, I sold our shirts to Invicta Press to pay the bill. It took ages to get Johny Brind’s shirt as he was never in. Bob Brenchley Kingsnorth Road, Ashford
