Danny Laslett believes Ashford’s next three games will “make or break” their season as they aim for an immediate return to South League Premier Division hockey. Two big wins – against Worthing and Gore Court – in which they scored 15 goals and conceded none, have seen Ashford hit the ground running after a month-long mid-season break. But head coach Laslett is preparing for tougher challenges ahead, beginning with the trip to Old Bordenians on Saturday. His team have suffered a blow with news that striker Matt Reede could be out for between four and six weeks with a back injury, while youngster Ronan Taggart is battling to overcome a sickness bug in time to play this weekend. Ashford sit just above Old Bordenians in second spot on goal difference. Both clubs have 27 points – three behind leaders Tunbridge Wells. Saturday’s game is the first of three matches for Ashford against top-five sides. Next week they host fifth-placed Marden, before travelling to leaders Wells. Laslett said: “They are three games which could be make or break for us. If we get a result at Bordenians I will start to believe we really can do something. “Bordenians play with plenty of spirit and heart and are a big physical side. They seem to win their games by the odd goal, always coming out on the right side, so we know we will have to fight to the end.”
