Bakers building continues to rise
A new housing development in Ashford town centre is taking shape.
The layout of two floors of the recently-named Bakers Court, which is in North Street, can now be seen.
When complete, the two levels will become the car park and the first floor.
Site manager Kevin Schofield said: “The main transfer slab has been cast over the top of the undercroft car park and the columns and slab for the first floor level are being set up.
“In other areas the piles are being exposed and broken down ready for the ground floor slab to be cast in a week or two.”
Contractors from Durkan have been on site since January this year, when they demolished Ashdown Court.
Last month, owner Affinity Sutton announced its decision to re-name the development Bakers Court in homage to the site’s history as a bakery.
The project is expected to be complete in summer 2015 and will comprise two three-bedroom houses, 20 two-bedroom apartments and five one bedroom apartments.
The affordable homes will be let to working individuals and families on low to middle incomes or Social Rent.
