I was therefore pleased that Ashford was invited to the Treasury for a meeting with key people. This allowed us to explain how successful we were in promoting inward investment, introducing space standards, building local needs and affordable housing.
Ashford, like every other district in Kent, faces a shortfall of affordable housing but last year saw us build 80 with funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
They have now awarded Ashford over £2.1 million to deliver a further 106 affordable homes in the next three-year period, thus taking the total funding secured by the council in the last three years to just over £11 million – a clear indication that we can be relied on to deliver.
