Your cor­re­spon­dent Jean Foxon asks where are all the cuck­oos hid­ing?

We have lost over half the breed­ing cuck­oos in the UK over the last 25 years. To try to find the rea­sons, the Bri­tish Trust for Or­nithol­ogy has been satelite track­ing cuck­oos since 2011 to fol­low their mi­gra­tion routes and where they over­win­ter in Africa. To date, 31 male cuck­oos have been fit­ted with re­cently de­vel­oped so­lar pow­ered 5gr tags and these have re­vealed dif­fer­ent mi­gra­tion routes on their 10,000-mile round trip.
