£2m to build affordable homes
Ashford has secured £2.1 million of funding to build 106 affordable homes in the borough.
The announcement from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) brings the total funding for housing in the area in last three years to just over £11 million.
Cllr Gerry Clarkson, leader of Ashford Borough Council, said: “We welcome the announcement of new funding from the HCA. It enables us to carry on with our pro-active programme of providing affordable homes.
“More widely, it also supports our ambition to become self-financing as an authority in the future.”
The council has also launched a property company to buy affordable units and a lettings company for private landlords, which it claims will help tackle the shortage of affordable housing.
