Two-hour battle with dung blaze
A large pile of horse manure caught fire in Shadoxhurst on Thursday afternoon last week.
Firefighters started tackling the blaze at 3.50pm, and although they had the flames under control fairly quickly the muck, in Criol Lane, was still burning until 5.45pm.
Two fire engines and a water unit were called to the rural location and foam was used to fight the flames.
A spokesman told the Kentish Express it can take a long time to put out burning dung heaps, which are known to spontaneously combust in warm weather.
No roads were closed and no one was injured.
