Youngsters enjoy week of activities
which included djembe drumming and T-shirt design, were run by a company called The Rewards Project.
Youth project manager Mike Gower said: “The whole week was very successful – the young people got a lot out of it and everyone wants more. The graffiti wall was probably the most popular activity; the artwork was amazing.
“A lot of kids took part in the Big Sex Challenge. The youngsters voted on what they thought the top STI in Ashford was – they said chlamydia – and it led on to lots of discussions.”
When asked whether he thought it was unusual for a religious group to teach youngsters about sex, Mr Gower said an outreach worker regularly held similar sessions at the youth centre, adding: “Sexual health affects everyone.”
This week the Bridge Project is taking youngsters on trips, and next week young volunteers will be rewarded with a five-day narrow boat holiday.
