Wise­man de­lighted with sec­ond place in Lon­don Triathlon

Ash­ford Tri’s Scott Wise­man pro­duced an ex­cel­lent per­for­mance to fin­ish sec­ond in the Lon­don Triathlon on Sun­day in a time of 1hr 58min 10sec. A field of 4,500 lined up for the Olympic dis­tance event based around the Excel Arena, in­clud­ing a 1,900m swim in Al­bert Dock, fol­lowed by a 40k cy­cle and 10k run. Wise­man’s times were 21.39, 57.14 and 34.40 for each dis­ci­pline. The Ash­ford Prep School teacher said: “I am de­lighted with the re­sult. I know I am in great shape and look­ing for­ward to another podium fin­ish at Aberveldy in Scot­land next week­end.” Chair­man Steve Hick­man was first Ash­ford & District Road Run­ner Club mem­ber home in the 40 mile GrimReaper Ul­tra Marathon based at Grim­sthorpe Cas­tle in Lin­colnshire. He fin­ished 28th out of 96 starters in 8:36.02. It was the 99th triathlon of his ca­reer and he is due to com­plete his cen­tury in the Isle of Wight in Oc­to­ber. Amanda Bashford and He­len Wee­don also took part – their third ul­tra marathon in a month. Bashford fin­ished third in her cat­e­gory (9:14.13), with Wee­don’s time of 10:02.08 – 40 min­utes quicker than his pre­vi­ous best. Chris Boyce fin­ished seventh (18.50) in the third Sam­phire Hoe 5k, leav­ing him third over­all. The fi­nal race takes place on Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 27. Boyce also won the lat­est Ash­ford parkrun in 18.29, 15 sec­onds ahead of run­ner-up Robert Carpenter (18.44).
