Lon­don Beach launch­ing pro-am event

Lon­don Beach GC are launch­ing a new nine-hole pro-am com­pe­ti­tion later this month.

The Elite Play­ers Swin­dle is aimed at lo­cal pro­fes­sion­als and cat­e­gory 1 am­a­teurs, cost­ing £25 to en­ter, with all of the en­trance fee go­ing to­wards the prize fund.

The first event takes place on Fri­day, Au­gust 22, start­ing at 4pm. En­tries can be made on 01580 767616. The club are also hop­ing to in­crease the num­ber of Char­ity Golf so­ci­ety days. A min­i­mum 20 play­ers pay­ing £35 per head is re­quired with the £700 do­nated to a char­ity of the host so­ci­ety’s choice, sub­ject to ap­proval. Ash­ford Rail’s in­ter­est in the Mol­lie Cleggett Ladies County Com­pe­ti­tion ended with quar­ter-fi­nal de­feat to Folke­stone Park last week. How­ever, Rail made a win­ning start against Cheri­ton in the pre­lim­i­nary round of the Hud­son Cup, a two-rink Shep­way com­pe­ti­tion. The quar­ter-fi­nals take place to­mor­row (Fri­day). Ash­ford beat Can­ter­bury 115-83 in a six-rink triples last Satur­day. Ham­street lost 83-37 in their lat­est Mer­maid League out­ing, at Beck­ley on Sun­day. The pre­vi­ous day they went down 70-55 at home to Rye in the same com­pe­ti­tion. The best win­ning rink – J New, P Brabon and Dot Ser­vante – won 20-12. Ham­street won by one shot, 66-65, in a four-rink friendly at Hythe. The trio of L Scott, J Vin­cer and A Lai­dler were the best per­form­ers – win­ning 20-14. Ham­street beat Pett 65-59 in another Mer­maid League con­test. The rink of R Col­lick, A Lai­dler, D and Ross­ing­ton won 24-7.
