London Beach launching pro-am event
London Beach GC are launching a new nine-hole pro-am competition later this month.
The Elite Players Swindle is aimed at local professionals and category 1 amateurs, costing £25 to enter, with all of the entrance fee going towards the prize fund.
The first event takes place on Friday, August 22, starting at 4pm. Entries can be made on 01580 767616. The club are also hoping to increase the number of Charity Golf society days. A minimum 20 players paying £35 per head is required with the £700 donated to a charity of the host society’s choice, subject to approval. Ashford Rail’s interest in the Mollie Cleggett Ladies County Competition ended with quarter-final defeat to Folkestone Park last week. However, Rail made a winning start against Cheriton in the preliminary round of the Hudson Cup, a two-rink Shepway competition. The quarter-finals take place tomorrow (Friday). Ashford beat Canterbury 115-83 in a six-rink triples last Saturday. Hamstreet lost 83-37 in their latest Mermaid League outing, at Beckley on Sunday. The previous day they went down 70-55 at home to Rye in the same competition. The best winning rink – J New, P Brabon and Dot Servante – won 20-12. Hamstreet won by one shot, 66-65, in a four-rink friendly at Hythe. The trio of L Scott, J Vincer and A Laidler were the best performers – winning 20-14. Hamstreet beat Pett 65-59 in another Mermaid League contest. The rink of R Collick, A Laidler, D and Rossington won 24-7.
