Giving a hoot about Clarkson’s tweets

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Weeds Shame -

With reference to the article ‘Jeremy’s got the hump!’ (KE, July 31) the Top Gear star’s twitter ‘rant’ about the speed controlling measures sited by Kent County Council in Ulley Road, Kennington.

I am sure that his comments are tonguein-cheek, and that he is a bit of a wind up merchant that you either enjoy or loathe. The speed humps are not ideal but the serious message is that there are schools in the area so prevention of accidents is, of course, very important.

However, I wish to impart some local knowledge to Mr Clarkson in view of his controversial observations. An Ulley is in fact an Anglo Saxon word for a ‘place where owls meet’ but would Mr Clarkson give a hoot about that or do so when he is driving through Ulley Road to alert the residents!

Please Jeremy, do not stop your abrasive comments about Ashford! It gives Ashfordians something to think about and discuss, and we do, of course, have the right to reply.

Please do not judge this historic town solely by the surrounding roads that you drive through. Visit our lovely public houses, restaurants, etc, meet and talk to the local characters, or mention us on Top Gear.
